Start exercising in the New Year!
We all know that weight loss and exercise can help reduce heart disease and cholesterol levels. The question is how can we get started exercising. Well, with the New Year about to start it’s a perfect time for you get started with an exercise regime. Yes, I know it’s not easy so start out small. There’s no need to go mad rushing to a gym. You can start by taking the stairs instead of the elevator at your office or in your apartment building.
Now I know many people living out in the suburbs have no choice but to drive everywhere, or perhaps you live in a house and not an apartment building. No worries. Find a nice place to walk in a park, or on a school’s track or even from strip mall to strip mall. Drive to one strip mall and then walk to the next Just get yourself moving! Even better, get somebody to join you, a family member or a friend who might also need to exercise or, who wants to motivate you. It’s a lot easier to go out and do something healthy if you have someone else reminding you or joining you!
Or how about dancing? Any type will do… ballroom, salsa, belly dancing or bhangra. You will get fit without realizing you are exercising which is one of the best ways! And, you get the added benefit of a healthy hobby.
If you do want to head to a gym, that’s great. Again, start slow. Maybe try the bicycles or stair machines before you head over to those machines. And do try and find someone to go with you. Having a friend join you can make it a lot easier to get up and go. Also, if you make going to the gym a habit and part of your daily or weekly routine, you won’t even think about going. You will just go! As time goes on you can add machines to your routine. And, no matter what exercise you do, try and vary up your routine because doing the same thing every day or every week can be a bit boring. Mix up your walking routine with a dance class. Most gyms have great classes you can take. Try a Zumba (based on Latin dancing techniques) class one day. This trendy exercise will definitely get your heart beating. And that’s the best thing for you!
